Meghan Markle Makes Her First Public Appearance Since Pregnancy Announcement

A little more than 12 hours after the Palace announced that the Duchess of Sussex was pregnant, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first official stop on their jam-packed 16-day tour of Australia on Tuesday, as they were formally welcomed at Admiralty House (where they are staying for this leg) and met Invictus Games representatives and Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife, Lady Cosgrove.

Meghan wore a white dress by Australian designer Karen Gee, which is called the “Blessed” dress, reminiscent of when she wore a “Husband” shirt back for her first official appearance with Prince Harry a year ago. The couple were gifted a stuffed kangaroo, which Meghan noted was the pair’s first baby gift, and a pair of tiny Uggs. (“These are awesome,” Harry said, of the tiny Uggs.)

Afterwards, the couple will head to the zoo, where they will be, yes, meeting two baby koalas. (Prepare for those photos to flood your Instagram feed accordingly.) And from there, they will take a ferry to the Sydney Opera House, where they will watch a rehearsal by a dance company and engage with members of the public, who no doubt will have much to say to the couple following the pregnancy news. The very busy first day will end at Admiralty House, where a reception will take place.

It is unclear exactly how many weeks along Meghan is in her pregnancy: initial reports said she was 12 weeks along, though Us Weekly is now reporting she is at about 15 weeks, due around May 2 (which happens to be Princess Charlotte’s birthday). Meghan will reportedly be taking part in the portion of the trip in Fiji and Tonga (where there is a risk of contracting the Zika virus) after consulting with doctors. Her best friend, Jessica Mulroney, is said to have arrived today as well, presumably to aid Meghan in a styling capacity.

Meghan and Harry were photographed upon their arrival in Australia on Sunday, with Meghan holding two large purple binders in front of her stomach—while the binders may have seemed a bit unusual at first, it now makes more sense post-pregnancy news.
