NBC vet Jim Bell to become new boss of the ‘The Tonight Show’

NBC veteran Jim Bell is becoming the new boss at “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” as executive in charge and showrunner, the network said.

Bell, a 20-plus year vet of the network, most recently served as president of NBC Olympics production and programming.

An insider told us the move’s been in the works for “at least six months” since a top producer was planning to leave, and another is going on maternity leave and returning.

Said an insider of the situation, “Mike DiCenzo was planning to leave for months and Katie Hockmeyer is preparing to go on maternity leave.

“It was a divide-and-conquer scenario since two key people are leaving. [Jim is] going to enhance Jimmy’s unique talents. He’s not there to do an overhaul by any means.”

DiCenzo announced his exit in a lengthy Twitter statement, saying, “Leaving this show, this staff, and crew, and Jimmy — it’s one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever made . . . thankfully, Jimmy couldn’t have been more supportive or understanding.”
