Steelers now trying to kill the Le’Veon Bell trade talk

Art Rooney II doesn’t expect to see Le’Veon Bell wearing another NFL jersey any time soon.

Amid reports of the star running back being shopped as he continues to hold out, the Steelers owners put trade talks to rest. For now.

“I expect him to be a member of the team going forward. That’s my expectation,” Rooney told NFL Network this week, according to Pro Football Talk.

The three-time Pro Bowler was reportedly expected to return to the Steelers in Week 7, the team’s bye week. Pittsburgh faces Cleveland next Sunday in Week 8.

“It sucks having to sit out football,” Bell said. “I want to play. I want to win games and the playoffs. But I’ve gotta take this stand. Knowing my worth and knowing I can tear a ligament or get surgery at any time, I knew I couldn’t play 16 games with 400 or more touches.”

Though Bell ran for 1,291 yards and nine touchdowns with a career-high of 321 carries last season, his replacement, James Conner, is already amassing plenty of high-ranking fans.

“James is a darn good football player,” Rooney shared. “Happy to have him.”

Bell is hopeful to get a long-term deal, but it doesn’t seem to be happening with the Steelers.
