Fire rips through historic Upper East Side mansion, 3 injured

A heavy fire ripped through a historic $50 million dollar Upper East Side townhouse Sunday night — injuring three people, officials said.

The blaze broke out on the 3rd floor of the landmark Gilded Aged mansion at 854 5th Avenue shortly after 8 p.m., fire officials said.

The building is home to the office for Serbia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

“I have no idea what happened,” said one woman who was leaving the scene. “My husband starting screaming: ‘There’s a fire! There’s a fire!’” .

At least 2 firefighters and three other people were transported to Lenox Hill medical center all with minor injuries, according to sources.

“We had a fire on the 3rd floor of the mission, the ambassador was on scene,” FDNY Chief John Esposito said.

“There were people in the building. We had heavy fire damage on the 3rd floor which is an office space. People sought refuge on the roof and they were removed by fire department personnel. We brought the fire under control in about 2 hours.”

The fire is not deemed to be suspicious at this time, official said at the scene.
