Time magazine is going on a hiring spree.
Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal and Chief People Officer Sue Suh have unveiled a new career site for the magazine that features close to 30 job openings — including 23 in editorial.
It’s a dramatic signal that the new owner is investing in areas where the old regime did not. All but two of the job postings in editorial are for new positions, a spokeswoman said. They range from editorial assistant for Time for Kids to senior business & tech editor, national political correspondent, justice editor and health editor.
Salesforce founder Marc Benioff and his wife Lynne in September agreed to pay $190 million to buy the magazine and its Web sites from Meredith.
Hiring was pretty much frozen in place as the one-time flagship of old Time Inc. was sold in January along with the rest of Time Inc. for $1.8 billion in cash and the assumption of $1 billion in debt. Time was one of four magazines that Meredith put up for sale in March, two months after the acquisition of the whole company was completed.
Felsenthal told CNN’s Brian Stelter on “Reliable Sources” Sunday that the Benioffs were attracted to Time because of the magazine’s legacy and “huge progress” in transforming its business for the digital age. He said the Benioffs are “excited to help us build on that foundation and believe in the potential of the brand.”
