Video footage of the moment a pilot cheated death by parachuting out of a military jet before it splashed into the ocean off the coast of Hawaii was released Wednesday night.
The video shows the civilian contractor for the Hawaii Air National Guard eject from his Hawker Hunter jet at about 2:25 p.m. near Honolulu’s Sand Island.
The plane then goes down into the ocean, creating a huge splash of water, the video shows.
The pilot was rescued after the crash and is stable condition, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The pilot was participating in a military exercise hosted by the Hawaii Air National Guard when the crash happened. He had taken off of Honolulu’s airport before the crash.
