Manchester United news: ‘Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should NOT be a shoo-in for permanent job’, says Simon Jordan on talkSPORT

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should NOT be ‘an absolute shoo-in’ for the full-time Manchester United job, according to Simon Jordan.

Solskjaer’s unbeaten start to his caretaker reign was ended on Tuesday with a 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The Red Devils were outclassed at Old Trafford and the result, which leaves their European hopes hanging by a thread, led to questions over the Norwegian’s suitability for the permanent role.

Ten wins and a draw from his first 11 games in charge led to numerous calls for the club to give Solskjaer the full-time job at the end of the season.

But Jordan has suggested the former Cardiff and Molde coach is not the right man to take United back to the top.

“All of a sudden he’s an absolute shoo-in for the gig, but I don’t think he should be, could be or would be if it was under my control,” said the talkSPORT pundit.

“PSG aren’t the greatest side by any shape or form in European football – they got, at times, schooled by Liverpool in their games.

“There is this ridiculous lobby saying he should get the job as he’s won ten out of 11 games, but when something was so dark, any kind of light being shone on it makes it look brighter.

“We know it was so dark [under Mourinho], so I don’t take away from Solskjaer’s achievements, I don’t take away from the fact that actually he’s done a damn sight better with a lot more common sense, with a lot more poise, composure and balance than I thought he would have.

“He needs to get a lot of credit for that.

“But this is something different when you start to step up into the real level of where Manchester United want to be – which is the Champions League.”
