Meet Your New TV Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

It was essential viewing last spring, amid royal wedding mania: the Lifetime move Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance. The feature aired about a week before the actual Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot, and, in traditional Lifetime movie fashion, documented the ups and downs the pair had been through, while adding a heavy dose of melodrama to the proceedings. The couple was portrayed by Parisa Fitz-Henley and Murray Fraser, both of whom look quite a bit like their real-life counterparts—and they seemed to have a lot of fun with it, Fitz-Henley, in particular, live-tweeting and engaging with fans during the airings.

In perhaps another indication of the great interest in the pair, the network has now announced we’ll be getting a sequel to the film, though without Fitz-Henley and Murray, titled Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal. The new film—which will begin filming in Vancouver this month and air in the spring—is set to portray the “love story of newlyweds Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle, pulling back the curtain to reveal the untold joys and challenges of life inside the Royal family during their pivotal first year of marriage,” according to Lifetime’s release. It goes on: “Beyond blending their families and cultures, Harry and Meghan’s core values are put to the test as they try to find the balance between honoring royal tradition and staying true to their beliefs.” As the first movie was filmed before the wedding, it’s safe to assure the new one will take us from the wedding to the Australia tour—and perhaps even include Meghan’s recent baby shower in New York. It is also hard to imagine a script not including the dramatics caused by Meghan’s estranged father, Thomas, and half-sister, Samantha.

Now, who will be playing Harry and Meghan, you are no doubt desperate to find out. The network revealed Thursday that Tiffany Marie Smith will be playing Meghan, and Charlie Field will be playing Harry. Smith has appeared on Supernatural and Jane the Virgin, and had an uncredited role as a C.I.A. agent in the film Vice. She is an Angeleno (just like Meghan!) and is a very active Instagrammer (like Meghan . . . used to be!). Smith shared the casting news on Thursday, including the hashtags “#dreambig” and “#herewego” in her caption. Field, meanwhile, has not shared the news on his own Instagram account. He has appeared on Poldark and Genius, and has at least once attempted yoga, a recent hobby of the man he’ll be portraying. We can only assume, to get into character, Smith is working on her banana bread while Field takes some polo lessons.
