Prince William and Kate Middleton split up Wednesday morning for two separate engagements in different parts of London, both for causes quite important to them.

William’s engagement followed the announcement this morning that he has become a patron of the Passage, the U.K.’s largest resource center for the homeless. William has visited the center multiple times over the past 25 years, his first visit taking place in 1993 with his mother, Princess Diana. (His name is visible in the guest book from that visit, with his name below his mother’s.)

In May 2016, he spoke about the influence the Passage had on him when he was younger. “The visits I made as a child to this place left a deep and lasting impression upon me, about how important it is to ensure that everyone in our society, especially the poorest, are treated with respect, dignity and kindness, and are given the opportunities to fulfill their potential in life,” he said at the time.

Timed to his visit to the center this morning, the Palace released a photo of that first 1993 visit, in which William and Prince Harry can be seen pictured with Diana. (That guest-book shot is included as well.)

Kate and William visited the Passage in December, when they helped make cards and prepare gifts ahead of Christmas. This morning, William assisted volunteers during a lunch shift, helping to “prepare and serve lunch.”

Meanwhile, at the same time, Kate attended the Royal Foundation’s Mental Health in Education conference, where she met with representatives from the mental health and education fields. Kate has long championed mental-health awareness work, particularly related to young people. For the Wednesday visit, she spent the day sitting in panels and discussions on a variety of topics related to mental-health issues.
