There are a variety of factors that determine what makes a big club, trophies won, legendary players, stadium capacity and so on.
The end result usually causes plenty of debate among supporters, keen to put forward their argument as to what makes their beloved club the best.
Real Madrid have long been considered the best team in the world
Thankfully, France Football have managed to compile a list of the 30 biggest clubs in the world and have based the end results on ten specific reasons, with each worth points.
They are, number of players in the squad to have won a World Cup, continent level titles won (eg; Champions League), shirts sold per year, annual revenue, record transfer fee paid, average attendance, market value of current squad, Ballon d’Or trophies won since 1956, social media followers and clubs with the biggest mythical status.
So, who were deemed the biggest? Take a look at the list below.
27= Santos FC – 18 points
Neymar holds the Recopa Sudamericana trophy in 2012. The club has had many famous players over the years such as Robinho and Pele
27= Club America – 18 points
The club has won a record thirteen league titles, as well as having a joint-record five Copa México titles, and five Campeón de Campeones cups
27= Independiente – 18 points
Independiente’s achievements include a record of seven Copa Libertadores won, being the only club to win four finals in a row, between 1972 and 1975
27= Galatasaray – 18 points
Galatasaray is the most successful Turkish football club in history. Domestically, they have won 21 Süper Lig titles, 17 Turkish Cups and 15 Turkish Super Cups
24= AS Monaco – 21 points
One of the most successful clubs in French football, they have won eight league titles and five Coupe de France trophies. They were runners-up in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1992 and the Champions League in 2004
24= AS Roma – 21 points
Roma’s greatest ever player Francesco Totti. Roma have won Serie A three times, in 1941–42, 1982–83 and 2000–01, as well as winning nine Coppa Italia titles and two Supercoppa Italiana titles
24= VfB Stuttgart – 21 points
VfB Stuttgart have won the Bundesliga five times, most recently in 2006–07; the DFB-Pokal three times; and the UEFA Intertoto Cup a record three times
23. Schalke 04 – 22 points
Founded in 1904, Schalke have won seven German championships, five DFB-Pokals, one DFL-Supercup and one UEFA Cup. They are also the first German club to win a cup double back in 1937
21= Al Ahly – 23 points
Al Ahly have won a record of 40 national league titles, 36 national cups titles, and 10 national super cup titles making them the most successful club in Egypt. They have also never been relegated to the Egyptian Second division
21= Celtic – 23 points
Celtic have won 49 Scottish championships and won the European Cup in 1969, the only Scottish side to ever reach the final
19= Borussia Monchengladbach – 24 points
The club have won five Bundesliga titles, three DFB-Pokals, and two UEFA Europa League titles
19= Benfica – 24 points
Along with Sporting Lison and FC Porto they are one of the big three clubs in Portugal and are the most decorated with 81 major trophies
18. Boca Juniors – 31 points
Boca are ranked fifth in the world in terms of number of internationally recognized titles won,level with A.C. Milan and CA Independiente, and behind Real Madrid (25), FC Barcelona, (20) and Egyptian side Al Ahly (20)
17. Marseille – 35 points
Marseille have won ten league titles (nine times in Ligue 1), ten Coupes de France and three Coupes de la Ligue
16. Ajax – 37 points
Ajax are one of the five teams that has earned the right to keep the European Cup and to wear a multiple-winner badge; they won consecutively in 1971–1973. In 1972, they completed the continental treble by winning the Eredivisie, KNVB Cup, and the European Cup
15. Inter Milan – 60 points
From 2006 to 2010, Inter Milan won five successive league titles. They have also won the Champions League three times: two back-to-back in 1964 and 1965 and then again in 2010

Between 1989 and 2005, Arsenal won five League titles and five FA Cups, including two doubles
9. Manchester City – 89 points
Manchester City have won the Premier League three times in the last seven seasons
8. Chelsea – 91 points
Chelsea became the first London club to win the Champions League trophy back in 2012
7. Paris Saint-Germain – 94 points
PSG have won 38 major trophies and are the most successful club in the history of French football
6. Juventus – 107 points
Juventus have won 34 league titles, 13 Coppa Italia titles and eight Supercoppa Italiana titles, two Intercontinental Cups, two European Cups / Champions Leagues, one European Cup Winners’ Cup, a joint national record of three UEFA Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and one UEFA Intertoto Cup
