The Bachelor Contestants Just Keep Leaving Colton Underwood

If Bachelor Nation does not get its fence jump soon, there will be hell to pay. Then again, even if Monday night’s Bachelor failed to deliver Colton Underwood’s long-teased vault, it did deliver something even better: for the third week in a row, a contestant has chosen to ditch Colton of her own accord. Following in the footsteps of Elyse and Sydney was Heather, who shared her first kiss with Colton just a couple episodes ago. For those keeping track, that might make Colton a record holder for most self-eliminations in a single season of The Bachelor; even the infamously villainous Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis only saw two women leave of their own volition.

Now that Colton’s final four women are in place and ready for hometown visits, things are bound to get even more intense—and that fence jump must be on the horizon. The only question remaining: which of Colton’s final four actually inspired the franchise’s most dramatic moment yet?

After several minutes of stalling, this week’s episode got down to business. Tayshia shared that juicy gossip she teased last week after some oysters and wine—and encouragement from Colton: “I’ve heard some disheartening conversations that have taken place in the house,” she said. “Unfortunately, some girls aren’t necessarily in this for possibly the right reasons—and I’m not telling you because I don’t want to tattle-tale, but I just think that you should know.”

Folks, she did name names: “I feel like Cassie and Caelynn aren’t genuine,” Tayshia said, “and I believe that’s who Katie was referring to—and Sydney and Demi. They’re already talking about, you know, being the next Bachelorette, and they also have said that they don’t think they’re going to be ready to get engaged at the end of this.”

Truthfully, it’s hard to think of a better match for Colton than someone who cares more about getting their own season than winning his heart—but apparently this was not what Colton wanted to hear. As he’s mentioned two or three dozen times, his greatest fear is that at the end of all this, he’ll have chosen a woman who is not actually ready to get engaged. Colton rewarded Tayshia with a rose for her troubles, and made his way into his two-on-one with Caelynn with some serious questions—which Caelynn answered with tears. After an awkward, often quiet date in which both Caelynn and Colton cried at least once, Caelynn delivered the speech Colton needed to hear: “I pray to God that it’s us at the end of this, and that we can be engaged and then get married and have kids and raise kids,” she said. “That’s what I want.” And then, the pièce de résistance: Caelynn told Colton she’s falling in love with him, effectively sealing her spot.

Not so lucky? Hannah B., who played the “I’m falling in love with you” card too early—a rookie mistake, if ever there were one—and thus landed in dreaded “I don’t know if I can match her feelings” territory. Ultimately, Colton sent her packing—and not long after, Heather decided to send herself home during her group date with Cassie, Kirpa, and Hannah G., thinning the herd even further. “Colton, like, you’re something so special,” Heather said. “But, right now, I just don’t think that it’s fair to you to take you to my hometown, if I don’t know 100 percent confidently that I’m ready for that.” Fair enough!

Hannah G., it’s worth mentioning, has faded since she won that first-impression rose at the beginning of the competition. Her presence has been minimal for weeks, and on this admittedly drama-filled group date, she was practically nonexistent. Although the first-impression rose is usually a decent indicator of who will win, it appears this season that will not be the case. For now, however, she’s going to hometowns.

Which brings us to Cassie—a longtime favorite to win the season, even among celebrity fans including Daniel Radcliffe and Jimmy Kimmel. Colton, who seems intent on stirring up as much drama as possible, immediately confronted Cassie about what Tayshia told him—prompting a(nother) tearful denial and, of course, the assurance that she’s really, truly, here for Colton. (Notably, however, she did not deny the idea actually put forward: that she’s not ready to be engaged.) “I don’t like seeing her upset,” Colton said—essentially sealing Kirpa’s fate before she even sat down for her own talk with him.

Regardless of reason, it appears Colton is really into Cassie—putting whoever opposes Cassie or their relationship in a tricky spot. As Kirpa and Hannah G. waited for Colton and Cassie to finish talking, Kirpa confirmed that she, too, has noticed some of the concerning things Tayshia mentioned. She went ahead and said this to Colton—and before the date ended, she and Cassie found themselves locked in an inevitable fight. Kirpa stayed notably calm during the confrontation, but Cassie was less reserved. “I expressed my opinion, and that’s that,” Kirpa told Cassie. Cassie’s response? “In my opinion, you’re an idiot!” (She said it in an in-the-moment interview, but still: damn!)

Sadly, we all knew Kirpa was not long for this season—and indeed, in the end, Colton sent her home. Could Cassie have been this season’s stealth villain all along? It’s probably too soon to tell—but we still have yet to see who sends Colton over that fence, so perhaps we will soon find out. Then again, would sending Colton over a fence make one a villain—or a hero?
