On Monday morning, Jordan Klepper was arrested while filming a segment for his new Comedy Central series at a protest in Atlanta.
Deadline reports that Klepper, who previously hosted The Opposition, was filming at a Board of Regents meeting at the Georgia Capitol Building, amid a protest about undocumented students. According to TMZ, law enforcement said Klepper was among a group of nine people who interrupted the meeting with chanting. TMZ reports that when asked to leave, the protesters locked arms and refused to go, leading to their arrest for criminal trespass. In a video taken at the meeting, Klepper can be seen holding hands with the protesters and chanting.
Comedy Central confirmed Klepper’s arrest to Deadline. Representatives for the cable network and for Klepper did not immediately respond to V.F.’s request for comment.
Klepper’s new series will be documentary-based, and Deadline reports it has tentatively been titled Klepper. Klepper’s previous series, The Opposition, found the comedian in a Colbert Report-esque mode, mimicking the voices of the alt-right—inspired by the field work Klepper did in his time as a Daily Show correspondent. The specific format Klepper’s new show will take is unclear, but if this incident is any indication, Klepper and his team plan to really jump into the fray. Perhaps he and Stephen Colbert can swap war stories.
